Why a Competition?

Robotics Competitions are an invaluable educational tool for the kids, regardless of whether your child is a complete neophyte or a seasoned veteran. All of our competition team students engage in a cooperative competition where teams work together to accomplish a task.  Competitions are fun, entertaining, and most importantly, educational.

It is never adversarial. While there are winners, robotics competitions foster a very cooperative educational environment where kids who do well help offer ideas and actually teach others how to do better!  There is a joy in the sharing of knowledge that is unlike any other competition you have ever been a part of.  We find that this competition is the best way to teach and keep these young engineers engaged and learning. This attitude is shared by coaches, mentors, parents, judges, and event organizers.

Students see how their design works at the competition and then return to the LeXT to make improvements. We foster this exact philosphy in our competition classes.  It is one of the reasons why we mix different levels of teams together so that ideas are more free flowing.  While we don’t encourage copying ideas, we do really like the adaptation of ideas to your own design.  This is a time honored tradition in engineering.

Through this iterative process, the students learn that with work and perseverance they can accomplish great things.
